Bordeaux has done it again!

This year, 2015 has proved to be yet another sensational vintage for the fine-wine capital of the world.

WHO WILL BE THE NEXT SWISS WINE GURU?
Rene & Davide On the verge of legendary, this is easily the best vintage since 2010. And many wine critics agree. James Suckling stated that some châteaux made even better wines than 2009 and 2010. All three styles of Bordeaux 2015 wines – red, dry white and sweet – have been an astonishing success. Making this the most promising vintage in five years.

It is clear, no vintage has been quite like 2015. And with the most important annual offers coming from Bordeaux during En Primeur – the ARVI team set out to taste for themselves.

Europe’s most influential wine critic, the legendary - René Gabriel (left), announces that 2015 may be his final En Primeur campaign. But the question is – who will follow in his world-renowned footsteps? While it may be difficult to fill his shoes, Davide Vaccarini (right), ARVI’s Head Sommelier, is working towards his dream of becoming Switzerland’s next leading wine critic everyday.

The new cellars at Château Montrose.
" I love this vintage."
Davide Vaccarini
Throughout the first three weeks of April, several members of the ARVI team toured, tasted and explored the greatest producers of Bordeaux. And one thing is for sure, 2015 is truly in a class of its own.

Not only our team, but also the rest of the wine world gathered in the region for this chaotic, but nonetheless celebratory time to taste and critique cask-samples. Looking to our favorite, and most reliable wine critics - 2015 is one for the record books. For the first time, James Suckling awarded 100-points to eight wines. But this is nothing compared to Europe’s most influential wine critic, René Gabriel, who rated a whopping ten wines with a perfect score, each receiving a complete 20-points.
“Very big vintage; in dry whites, reds and Sauternes / Barsac.” René Gabriel
The wines are undoubtedly remarkable. However, there are a couple appellations that standout amongst this year’s monumental vintage. There is the Left Bank’s Margaux and Pessac-Léognan, along with Saint-Émilion on the Right Bank who have climbed their way to the top. This year their cask-samples have amazed and enchanted wine experts and critics alike. Though not far behind, along the banks of the Gironde in Médoc, Pauillac and Saint Julien crafted similarly bright and victorious examples of 2015. To the north, Saint-Estèphe had a few more challenges, yet the top châteaux, like Cos d’Estournel, Montrose and Phélan Ségur produced amazing 2015 wines nonetheless. Sauternes also had a prosperous vintage. Although it has not been a homogenous success for all of Bordeaux, the greatest châteaux have indubitably produced great, great wines.

“Another outstanding vintage for Bordeaux.”
“Some châteaux made wines better than 2009 or 2010.”
“It's one I am going to buy myself, because of the unique quality of so many wines. So many exciting wines were made - red, dry white and sweet.”
James Suckling

With such a favorable vintage, securing wines before they are released onto the market is what makes the En Primeur system so captivating, and especially important this year. Purchasing En Primeur wines is not only the best way to secure the most sought after labels, but to secure the quantities and bottle formats you crave. Purchasing wine En Primeur guarantees its origin – coming from a credible source, rest assured that each bottle has been stored and handled properly.

Like always, when it comes to En Primeur wines it is vital that you buy from a dependable and financially strong source. In the past years, some companies even went bankrupt, therefore it is more than imperative to purchase from a proper, trustworthy merchant. One that has definite allotments and will deliver your wines.

“It looks to be the best vintage since 2010.”
“In general, the early buzz says Pessac and Margaux reds lead the way on the Left Bank.”
“On the Right Bank, there are lots of successes too. The sweet wines of Barsac and Sauternes are also extremely promising.”
 James Molesworth, Wine Spectator

Globally, the demand for En Primeur wines is high – and growing with each year. We expect that the top wines will sell out quickly. As usual, we will inform our clients immediately upon release. But in order to avoid disappointment, we will need an equally face-paced reaction in return.

ARVI is here to help. We have one of the largest allocation of top-end Bordeaux 2015 wines and offer each and every producer without any tie-ups. Along with the standard and half-bottle sizes, as always we will give our clients the possibility to choose from larger formats as well - from Magnums to the extravagant 27-liter Primats – En Primeur is the time to dream big (and act faster). Each of the wines in our catalogue have been tasted and hand-selected by the ARVI team. Our ambitious lineup of wine consultants will support you along the way. We will guide you through this year’s selection of En Primeur wines and assist you in making the best decision – fitting with your personal tastes and desires, of course.
