Warm-up with the most refined and delicate Italian wines

Chiara Boschis is a true protagonist among the small, but driven group of women winemakers in the Langhe. Coming from a long lineage of viticulturists, she took the reins of E. Pira & Figli in 1990. Her parents purchased the estate in 1981 from an old wine producing family who had no heirs to take over the property. While she never wanted to change the winery’s name, she tastefully added her own. Her goal from the beginning has been to seamlessly unite the astonishing potential of Barolo, with approachable elegance, and bold, intense aromas. She achieves this goal, vintage after vintage, through rigorous vineyard management, meticulous selection, and impeccable vinification techniques such as shortened maceration, malolactic fermentation in stainless steel and aging in big oak barrels or barriques. In 2010, her brother, Giorgio joined her, and they now run this historical small wine cellar together. Today, the estate’s extremely limited production is crafted from eight and a half hectares of vineyards. Located only amongst the best hills of Monforte d'Alba (Mosconi, Ravera and Le Coste), Serralunga d'Alba (Gabutti) and Barolo (Cannubi, Liste and Terlo). The resulting wines are some of the most refined and powerful wines in Italy. Their collection is envied by many.

“As one of the few women winemakers in the area, I wanted to produce a Barolo, a very strong and powerful wine, that showed a bit of its elegant side as well.” - Chiara Boschis

“I am often asked who are the next set of producers that will reach superstar status. Well, Chiara Boschis is one of them.” - Antonio Galloni of Vinous

A classic Barbera, this ruby red wine comes from the Monforte (Ravera and Le Coste) and the Serralunga d'Alba (Gabutti) vineyards. With notes of violet, the intense bouquet of this pure Barbera blooms into scents of plum and blueberry. The palate is full-bodied with a fresh fruit base and a lively acidity. Aged for 18 months in French oak barrels and an additional 2-3 months of aging in bottle, this wine benefits from cellaring time. Pairs perfectly with cured meats, stuffed pasts dishes, and grilled meats.

Coming from one of the most significant vineyards in the region, this royal Barolo Cannubi is silky smooth yet powerful and dynamic. With scents of ripe fruits and spices, this wine incorporates the classical characteristics of the Cannubi vineyard – with notes of mint and eucalyptus. Aged for two years in new French barriques, the tannins are pivotal giving this red an inspiring structure and lengthy finish. A truly awarded wine, it pairs seamlessly with game meats, aged cheeses and truffle dishes.

Displaying the natural richness of the Mosconi vineyard, this Barolo shows the power and structure that is so typical of this site. More than inviting, this dark red uncovers notes of plum, mocha and licorice on the nose before exposing the soft rounded tannins and long finish on the palate. This pure Nebbiolo is grown on the Mosconi vineyard along the Monforte d’Alba hills. Aged for 24 months in French oak and then in bottle for 12 months, this complex wine benefits from at least three years of cellaring to reach peak drinkability. Serve decanted with seasoned cheeses and game meat.

The most explosive of the estate’s three Barolos, Via Nuova is full of dark, powerful flavors. Full-bodied with prominent tannins, this Barolo is a bit timid when first opened, but with time in the glass or prior decanting it develops into a vibrant red. Produced from Nebbiolo grown on the Terlo hill in Barolo, this wine benefits from two years in French new oak and one year of aging in bottle. A glass of this intense delight would pair perfectly with meat dishes, seasoned cheeses, or truffle plates.

A great wine for antipasti and first courses, this racy Dolcetto d’Alba is produced from 100% Dolcetto grapes cultivated in Monforte (Ravera and Le Coste). Fermented and aged in stainless steel, this wine is full of bright blue fruits, spices and floral notes. The tannins are ripe making for a well-balanced and elegant Dolcetto.

Produced from the youngest vines in Monforte (Ravera), this baby Barolo packs a serious punch. With an intense ruby red color, this wine’s persistent floral and fruity perfume combined with its rich, balanced palate is spectacular. As a pure Nebbiolo, this wine is aged for 12 months in French oak barriques and at least 2 months in bottle. Like the estate’s other Barolos, the Langhe is produced using the same vinification techniques, leaving this wine as an affordable quality wine.
